In south-western France, Jurdan Martitegi, military leader of the basque separatist group ETA, was arrested with two other ETA suspects near Perpignan and in a French-Spanish cooperation.
6 other suspects were arrested in Bilbao and other cities. Last week, Ekaitz Sirvent Auzmendi, a top supect as well, was detained in Paris.
One of the other two was identified as Alexander Uriarte Cuadrado, the three of them were found in Montauriol, a boarder region to Spain in the eastern Pyrenees, armed with three pistols driving a car with false number plates.
Mr Martitegi supposedly to took over the military command after Aitzol Irionda in south-western France in December, who took it from Mikel Garikoitz Aspiazu Rubina after he was arrested in France in October.
France started to arrest ETA members after the militant group stopped a 15 month old ceasefire in June 2007.
