QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GENERATOR - THE ANSWERS!
1. What time is the earliest check in at The Generator youth
hostel? What time is the latest check out? Are there luggage storage
facilities?
Check in time at The Generator is 2pm. You can arrive any time
before that and leave your luggage in the free locked luggage
room. Check out time on day of departure is 10am - again you can
leave your bags with them all day if you wish.
2. Do they provide evening meals?
Yes, they do. From 6-9pm every evening you can get dinner.
Daily specials, as well as a choice of pizzas, jacket potatoes,
salads and chips.
3. Are bed sheets and towels
provided?
Yes, bed linen, pillows and towels are provided to all guests
free of charge.
4. Do the dorm rooms have lockers?
Are there any safety deposit facilities within The Generator youth
hostel?
The dorm rooms do have lockers. Generally you will need to supply
your own padlock, and padlocks are also for sale. If you have
booked a private room you have your own key to that room. Safety
deposit boxes are provided on the reception level should you wish
to secure passports, tickets, money etc. The cost of these boxes
is 50 pence every time you relock the box.
5. What time is breakfast served
at The Generator youth hostel and is it included in the price?
Breakfast is included in all the rates. It is a basic continental
breakfast and is served from 7.30am-10.00am. They do not provide
an English breakfast.
6. Are there any hidden extras
in the prices?
No. All rates include breakfast, tax (VAT @ 17.5%) and service.
7. Describe the bedrooms.
All bedrooms are very basic, and they all have wash
basins, plus a clothes rack in the private rooms and lockers
in the dorm rooms. All rooms are bunk bedded
(one bed on top of the other) including the twin rooms. Please
note that they do not have any rooms with double beds.
8. Are the dorm rooms mixed
or single sex?
All dorm rooms are mixed - there are not any single sex dorms
at present.
9. Do they have single sex floors
or have any rules regarding males and females sharing private
rooms?
Males and females may share private rooms. Where group bookings
are made, the decision is left to the group leader if they
wish males and females to share, but they do not have any rules
on this matter. No floors are single sex, but the male and female
showers and toilets are on different sides of the floor.
10. Describe the toilet/shower facilities.
All toilets and showers are on the
corridors. There are approximately on average five people to one
toilet and 7-8 people to one shower when the hostel is fully booked.
All the facilities are cleaned daily and are open 24 hours. Hot
showers are available free of charge
at all times.
11. Is the hostel centrally
heated? Can we control the temperature in our room?
The rooms do not have radiators,
but the heating comes through the floor. There is no temperature
control for the rooms.
12. How many people sharing
the dorm rooms?
Most dorms have eight people. However
some have five or six. See the next question for more information.

12. Is there a minimum or maximum age to stay at The Generator?
There is certainly no upper age limit to stay there - The hostel
welcomes all budget travellers, but we do recommend that all guests
are "young at heart" as the Generator specialises in
youth accommodation. We do not recommend that those under 14 stay
here, unless they are part of a larger group or accompanied by
responsible adults.
13. Do you need to be a member
of any hostelling organisation to stay at The Generator?
No. We accept bookings from any travellers and backpackers, though
you will receive a 10% discount if you have a Hostels of Europe
or ISIC card.
14. What payment methods do
we accept at The Generator?
The Generator takes cash (Pounds Sterling only), Visa, Mastercard,
Switch, Eurocard, Travellers Cheques (in Pounds Sterling only),
and Cheques drawn on a British Bank. Please note that they do
not accept Eurocheques or American Express credit cards. Studios92
take a credit card number to secure the booking with a 10 percent
deposit - remainder of full payment will be due on arrival. If
you cancel your booking within 72 hours of arrival we will charge
a one night fee to your card.
15. What currency are the rates
on the internet and those quoted over the phone/fax in?
All our rates quoted are in British Pounds Sterling.
16. What are The Generator's
policies on smoking?
All bedrooms at The Generator are non-smoking. However, all communal
areas apart from one of the communal lounges and the kitchen area
are smoking areas.
17. Do you have internet access
and if so how much does it cost?
Yes, they have six internet machines
that are operated by a coin slot mechanism. The charge is 50pence
for about 7 minutes - about 4.50 pounds per hour.
18. What are the bar opening
times and prices?
The bar is open from 6pm-2am. Sometimes
it is open at other times if there are big sporting events. There
is a big screen TV and jukebox in the
bar, which are both free of charge. A happy hour period takes
place from 6pm-9pm when you can get a pint of beer for 1.00 pound,
as well as many spirits and mixers. Cocktails are 2.50 pounds
all night, and all prices are lower than London pub prices.
19. How do I get to The Generator?
When you receive your booking confirmation from Studios92, there
is directions from Russell Square station and some further information
available as well.
