In the 13th century the district of Covent Gardens was tilled by monks as an orchard and vegetable plot. By the 17th century a market sold fruit, vegetables and flowers and brothels and taverns became sights of violence and sin.

Nowadays, Covent Gardens is bustling with activity no matter what time of year and has become a magnet for tourists.  At the heart is The Piazza, where you will find energetic street performers and a maze of streets that will satisfy any shopper.

Covent Gardens is mainly pedestrianised so you don't have to worry about cars, buses and taxis but the crowds can get quite large, especially during the summer.

General goods, clothes, kitchen goods, cakes, bread, shoes, bags and videos are sold on Sundays.

Apple Market

British handmade arts and crafts sold in this fairly interesting market, the nearby Jubilee Market is more touristy.
